Epidemiology:
- older patients with degenerative disc disease
- can be seen in younger patients
Pathology:
- prolapse of the nucleus pulposus through the lumbar vertebral bony endplate into the spongiosa of an adjacent lumbar vertebrae.
Radiology:
- X-ray of lumbar spine
- MRI of lumbar spine
